Measure wall and ceiling area, add material waste, then price board, hanging and finishing separately. At the defaults, 800 sq ft with 10% waste totals $792 board + $960 hanging + $640 tape and texture = $2,392.
Measure the surfaces
Add the wall and ceiling area you need to cover. Garages often leave the ceiling open, so confirm whether it is in scope.
Add the waste factor
Cutouts for doors, windows and outlets plus offcuts add waste. Ten percent is a reasonable default.
Separate board from labor
Board price covers the material on the extra area; labor covers hanging and screwing on the finished area. Finishing smooth instead of texture adds a rate.
