How to Estimate Garage Insulation

Garage insulation is wall area plus ceiling area, each priced for material and labor. The target R-value sets the material cost and the total area sets the labor.

Add wall and ceiling area, then multiply by material and labor rates. 500 sq ft of walls plus 400 sq ft of ceiling is 900 sq ft at $0.60 material and $0.40 labor for $900.

Measure walls and ceiling

Separate exterior walls from the ceiling. Each is priced on its own area and may need different material.

Set the target R-value

Higher R-values cost more per unit. Match the R-value to the climate and whether the space is conditioned.
