How to Estimate Stamped Concrete

Contractor method for estimating stamped concrete: area, pattern, color and base.

Stamped concrete bids fail on the base and the stamping crew. The material is one number; the crew time to stamp before the concrete sets is where experience shows.

THE SHORT ANSWER

How do you estimate stamped concrete?

Measure the pour, choose pattern and color, then price the engineered slab assembly, crew, delivery and demolition. Use $9-$22/sq ft only as an initial installed planning range.

01

Measure the pour area

Measure the area in sq ft and confirm the access for the ready-mix truck. A pour that needs a pump truck adds $500-$1,000 — confirm before quoting.

02

Pick the pattern and color

Simple stone patterns are the baseline; brick adds 10%, herringbone 25%. Integral color adds ~$1.50/sq ft and is far more durable than surface release color.

03

Price the base and reinforcement

Use ~$1.50/sq ft for compacted gravel and ~$1.20/sq ft for mesh or rebar as planning allowances. The required slab assembly depends on soil, loads, thickness and local requirements. Demolition of an old slab adds ~$3/sq ft. Use the Stamped Concrete Cost Calculator to build the full quote.

Check the total and the crew

Stamping is a race against set time. Quote crew size, delivery, pumping and weather protection for the area, then replace each calculator allowance with current job quotes before markup.
