Landscaping bid formula

Bid = (materials + crew hours × crew rate) × (1 + markup%)

Materials and crew time form the direct cost. Markup is added on top to cover overhead and profit.

PRACTICAL EXAMPLE

A one-week job

$2,500 of materials plus 32 crew hours at $30 gives a $3,460 subtotal. With 20% markup the suggested bid is $4,152.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What counts as materials?

Plants, mulch, stone, soil, sod and any delivered goods. Not include equipment rentals unless you add them as a cost line.

Can I skip markup?

Only if overhead and profit come from elsewhere. Most small jobs need a markup to stay profitable.
