THE MATH
Deck cost formula
Total cost = area with waste × (material/sq ft + labor/sq ft)The real area grows with cut waste (about 10%). Decking material is priced per square foot, and framing plus installation labor is added on top.
PRACTICAL EXAMPLE
A 320 sq ft deck
320 sq ft with 10% waste gives 352 sq ft. At $4.50/sq ft material and $7/sq ft labor, the total is about $4,048.
