HOW TO USE IT
How to use the Drywall Finishing Cost Calculator
- 1

- 3
Add labor per sq ft and review the total.
THE MATH
Drywall finishing formula
Total cost = area × (materials + labor)Drywall finishing includes tape, joint compound and sanding plus labor: embedding tape, multiple mud coats and final sanding for a paint-ready surface.
PRACTICAL EXAMPLE
A 500 sq ft drywall job
500 sq ft × ($0.30/sq ft materials + $1.20/sq ft labor) = $750.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What finish level do I need?
Level 3 for hidden areas, Level 4 for standard painted walls, Level 5 for critical lighting or high-gloss paint.
Is a skim coat needed?
Often — two to three coats over the tape plus sanding give a smooth paint-ready surface. Heavy texture may need a full skim coat.
How long does it take?
Each mud coat needs drying time (24h+): a standard room takes 2-4 days including sanding.
