THE MATH
Tile cost formula
Total cost = area with waste × (material/sq ft + labor/sq ft)The real area grows with cut waste and breakage (about 10%). Tile is priced per square foot, and installation labor is added on top.
PRACTICAL EXAMPLE
A 300 sq ft floor
300 sq ft with 10% waste gives 330 sq ft. At $4.50/sq ft material and $5.50/sq ft labor, the total is about $3,300.
